How is xerostomia diagnosed?
When dry mouth is suspected in an individual who cannot describe how they are feeling (sufferers of Alzheimer's disease or stroke victims, for example), it can be confirmed by tests for reduced production of saliva (and tears). If xerostomia is confirmed, the doctor will attempt to alleviate the causes (by changing a medical treatment, for example) and to relieve the symptoms with easy-to-use saliva substitute sprays, such as the Inava Dry Mouth spray which is available from pharmacies or health and beauty stores.
